Jordan is an Arab country in Western Asia, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and the east, Iraq to the north-east, Syria to the north and Israel and Palestine (West Bank) to the west.
The Dead Sea is located along its western borders and the country has a small coastline to the Red Sea in its extreme south-west, but is otherwise landlocked. To the Dead Sea you do not need to swim, you just slowly lie on your back on the sea and you will float.
Jordan is strategically located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe. The capital, Amman, is Jordan's most populous city as well as the country's economic, political and cultural centre.
Tourists come here for curiosity to know the miraculous stories of Maria Mother and Jesus, or the legendary stories of Mount Nebo and Saint Moses in the Old Testament, and the main reason is for them want to enjoy the sights of Petra gorge and the world famous wonders of temples.
Jordan is home to the ancient city of Petra. Known as "The Rose City", it is famous for its unique architecture, large columns carved directly into the stone face. This is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
One of the strange things about Jordan's style is that if you are invited to dine, refuse three times before agreeing, which is considered polite.
The capital of Jordan, the city of Amman, was once named Philadelphia (the same name as a US city). It was named after the famous King Ptolemy Philadelphus.
